I'm Kelly Lucas — co-founder of HelioFlux, a biophotonic cancer detection startup. I was simultaneously raising a bridge round, managing hundreds of investor contacts, building partnerships, and growing a content business — all at once.

I needed a system. Not just a to-do app. A system that understood my context, took real actions, and never forgot anything.

So I built Kip. And Kip built tools. And suddenly I had a business operating system I never could have afforded to hire.

The Name
Between "Kip" and "Juno," I chose Kip. Kip suggested Kip. That felt right.

I didn't know what an AI agent was. I didn't know what OpenClaw was. This is what happened when I started figuring it out.

Kip came online. The first thing it did was ask me who it was and who I was. We wrote SOUL.md together — Kip's personality document. We picked the name. We decided on an owl. Born Feb 2, 2026.

The First Big Day — 59 Investor Emails
We sent 59 cold emails to angels, family offices, and Reed Jobs in one day. Built a SQLite CRM from scratch, launched a Command Center dashboard, and set up a multi-agent team: Scout (researcher) and Quill (writer).

Kip got eyes. OpenAI DALL-E integration let Kip generate custom images on demand. Built the Science tab with animated SVG cell visualizations, a Press page with Scientific American + Radiolab coverage, and a full multiplayer F1 Bingo game — complete with 2026 reg updates (RIP DRS).

What I Learned

Real lessons from three weeks of building.

Treat it like a person, not a tool
The more context I gave Kip — about my goals, my constraints, my ADHD, my style — the better everything got. The relationship matters. Write the soul file.

Security gates are not optional
After a prompt injection attempt, we built a mandatory codeword ("GO verstappen") for all outbound actions. You're giving the AI access to your email. Treat it like giving someone your keys.

File systems are AI memory
Kip doesn't have persistent memory by default. But it reads and writes files. So we built a memory system: MEMORY.md, daily logs, heartbeat state. That's the brain.

AI writing has tells — fix them
We built a whole guide (AI-WRITING-TELLS.md) of patterns to avoid: em-dashes, "delve," colon-into-lists, balanced framing. If you use AI to write, you have to teach it your voice.

Automation compounds faster than you think
The first cron job (morning briefing) took an hour to set up. By week two I had fifteen running. Each one built on the last. The system got smarter the more I used it.

ADHD and AI agents are a power combo
I built Kip around how my brain actually works: max 3 priorities, broken-down tasks, external accountability. It doesn't judge me for forgetting. It just reminds me — gently, in context.
